Would it be possible to upgrade an older ship with a system like APAR/SMART-L or similar system?

Well just upgrading the radar means you have a lot more data coming in. So you also need to upgrade fire control and computers. This means your cooling requirements spike to high-heaven. wo while it would depend on the ship, the general answer is no.

Alright. Thanks. I was trying to figure out if Tequilapoli could save some cash by slapping APAR/SMART-L onto the Cruisers (the KIDD Class) rather than build the new Destroyer (Burke Mod)

Hm. That might actually be possible. The Spruance Hull design was one of the few to be modular enough, and to have built in space for future use. I'm not sure it would work, but it's a lot more plausible than APAR on an Alaska.

That refit would definitely be possible, although I wouldn't be surprised if it weren't cost effective (compared to a clean-sheet design and build).
