Everyone should go and look at the United States folder under Real Life to see how every drawing should be named. I have personally fixed all of these, and I waded through some of the other folders attempting to do so, but the discrepancies were vast and I don't have the time to fix everyone's laziness.
FROM NOW ON ALL FILES WILL BE NAMED CORRECTLY, or I will NOT upload them. I will just highlight the drawing and press Shift-Delete to erase it. RENAMING
YOUR FILES IS A
MONSTROUS PAIN IN THE ASS, especially when there are hundreds of them.
As time permits, I might go back through the archive and fix all of the problems with filenames, but probably not anytime soon. It's such a massively annoying problem and so many of you are so cavalier about filenames and the templates that it's
quite maddening to deal with.
So, as a refresher:
1. If your drawing is of a SPECIFIC SHIP:
DD-445 Fletcher.gif
2. If your drawing is of a SPECIFIC SHIP, AND that ship is a CLASS LEADER:
DD-445 FLETCHER.gif
3. If your drawing is of a CLASS OF SHIPS:
DD Fletcher.gif
DO NOT USE UNDERSCORES (_), PARENTHESES, PERIODS (.), COMMAS (,), QUOTATION MARKS, SPECIAL CHARACTERS (accent marks etc). ONLY use hypens (-) to separate a HULL CODE and a PENNANT NUMBER ("DD-445"). Pennant numbers from foreign navies ("F-201", "D-201", etc) are acceptable and SHOULD BE USED. Project numbers should be used for Russian ships in place of the hull number if you are drawing a CLASS of ship.
DO NOT append a "1" to the end of the filename (eg, "DD-445 Fletcher 1.gif"), unless there is a corresponding "DD-445 Fletcher 2.gif" to go with the drawing that requires differentiation.
THIS IS NOT DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND.
Another word of advice:
PRESERVE THE FOLDER HIERARCHY when sending me drawings to upload. This means you should send me a folder with the following folders inside it:
Real Designs > United States of America > DD-445 Fletcher.gif
FAILURE TO PRESERVE THE FOLDER HIERARCHY WILL BREAK MY UPLOADING PROCESS. Do not name a folder "USA" instead of "United States of America". Look in the Real Designs section to see the folder names and COPY THEM DIRECTLY. This goes for every folder in the archive.
"Never Built Designs", NOT "Never wheres", "Never weres", "Never Build", etc.
"Alternate Universe", NOT "AU"
"Parts Sheets", NOT "Things that help drawing", "Planebucket", etc
