Sadly we all knew this was coming. Timothy has pointed out that imgur.com's terms of service mean you basically cede all your rights over any submissions to imgur, which is worrisome at best. I think for now the best option is to use a private FTP server (if you have one) or, if not, just understand that you are potentially giving up some rights (though in all honesty I doubt this will EVER be an issue...)

I used the 'workaround' and it seems that it's still working for me.
(for example: http://www.shipbucket.com/forums/viewto ... =27&t=3866 , http://www.shipbucket.com/forums/viewto ... =27&t=5924 )
For now, at least.
My 'workaround' stuff is still there too. Both, the one with th 'dl.dropboxusercontent.com' and the one where I only replace the '0' with a '1'.

Tempest, there is a lot of doom and gloom about Dropbox taking away the public folder. For the last 2-3 years there has been 2 versions of Dropbox. The original is the 'Public' folder version, the 2nd and still in use version does not use the Public folder, and will continue for the foreseeable future. Dropbox itself is not disappearing 'yet'.
It was very usual to be able to drop a drawing in the public folder and copy the link to paste. Any updates would just be a replacement of the drawing, so simple an operation. I know Dropbox will remain but the loss of the public folder is a great inconvenience.

Until the new site is created with its imagehosting features, my suggestion is to use imgur.com.
Thank you.

So has anybody lost their Public folder yet?
All my images remain in place. No losses.

BTW, going to imgur or another host will mean having to repost all those drawings and links. Now THAT is inconvenient.

Does imgur offer the same 'update' drawing feature of Dropbox?

Hello

Mine (posted using the dl.dropboxusercontent.com fix) are all still there. I guess I never really had a public folder, because I joined Dropbox relatively late.

For the time being...

Greetings

Mine are gone, and I used the Public Folder. I suppose I just have to abide both with reposting the broken images and posting new ones. Too bad, since I've redone (thoroughly) the Cleveland missile cruiser conversions... - I'm not redy to cede my artistic rights or "ownership" to a site that has done absolutely nothing to contribute in creating them! Nor do I have an FTP-server; could probably not afford one anyway. So, that's it for now then...

The Dropbox public folder in your file system didn't get deleted; its hotlink ability was removed. So you can no longer "copy public link" - a great inconvenience for those of us who had Dropbox before the public links feature was removed for new users.

It looks to me like the workaround discovered by a few guys still works, so I'd request that whoever discovered it repost the tutorial on how to do it in this thread. I can't find the thread myself.

The Imgur TOS is a bit annoying but 1) I doubt it will ever be a problem, and 2) it is the only reliable host still available that doesn't resize drawings (unless you have a private FTP server).

The workaround described here seems to work (for now): https://www.lonniewest.com/2017/02/dropboxsharedurl/

Hello everyone

This is how I do it (not my Idea, forgot who posted the tutorial); I can't guarantee it will work with any dropbox version (or indeed, anywhere at all; maybe I'm unique after all).

First, right-click the image in the dropbox folder, select 'copy dropbox link' ('Dropbox-Link kopieren' in German, maybe it's formulated differently elsewhere, it's the ninth item on the dropdown menu on my PC) and left-click as usual.

If you paste the link, it would look like this:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/cutymssqpc8n9 ... 4.png?dl=0

That one has never worked; no image will be shown.

[ img ]

But if you replace the blue part of the link

https://www.dropbox.com/s/cutymssqpc8n97a/BB_Athartha_1944.png?dl=0

with the following

dl.dropboxusercontent.com

so the link now looks like this

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/cut ... 4.png?dl=0

the image should be shown:

Hopefully nobody at dropbox reads this post. :(

Greetings
GD

Thanks!

Well, by the time they read your post and decide to break this functionality once and for all, hopefully we'll have our own imagehost via the Shipbucket server. ;)
