Salvage of wreckage not likely.

That's not counting the fact that it is likely to treated as a war grave for the over 1000 men who went down with her.

I think it would be better to build a memorial on a nearby island, such as Romblon (or Boracay, which has lots of tourists visiting often).

here memorial should be in here home town.

But there is an unwritten rule (can't remember if it's written down or not), but a warship that was lost in battle should not be salvaged. look at pearl harbor for example...

"the ship they went down with are there coffin. It would be disrespectful to those who died, to re-float it."

She's also (sadly) not in one piece...more like three. Judging by the pics I've seen thus far, the bow is upright, the midships portion is apparently lying on its port side, and the stern is upside down. What makes me mad is Mr. Allen apparently refuses to even give out basic info.

Edit. (If) a documentary will be made, should be interesting.

Watching the live feed on Youtube now. They just showed the sidescan sonar image of the wreck and she is utterly destroyed, far worse than Yamato. Just the small section of the bow seems intact, and part of the stern and those show implosion damage. The rest of the hull is completely shattered and scattered over a wide area so it looks like she broke up pretty close to the surface after a combination of ammo explosions and implosion of compartments.

Well, surely the staggering amount of torpedo and bomb hits she suffered didn't help her to mantain structural integrity as she went down. Although as far as I know there was no report from survivors of a massive explosion on the scale of that suffered by Yamato.

Anyway, for those who are interested, the entire stream has been recorded and there is a video of it on youtube:

skip to about 25:00 as there are just stillframes before that moment.

also:

a screen of the wreck as seen from the Octopus monitors. Took from that very same video.
