I'm planning on doing some paint schemes for these ships, also based on WoWS designs, as well as real life designs.

The Pensacola is one of my favorite cruisers. I don't know why. It just looks cool.

By 1943, there should be more modern float planes on the
catapults. Historically, they were SOC Seagulls.

I'm thinking of taking the seaplanes out and replacing them with more weapons. Any ideas on which weapons to use?

How extensive of a refit are we talking? I think the ideal case might be something like ripping out the catapults as well as the 5/25 and torpedo tubes, and emplacing four 5/38 in single Mk 24 mounts on either beam, all on the main deck, one replacing torpedoes and one replacing the boats aft. On the O-1 level between them, as many 40mm as you feel like might be available at that time, or maybe one more 5/38. I think the 40mm was still a pretty scarce weapon in 1943, so you might have to stick to 1.1" (this is an old tinclad that might get stuck in the Atlantic anyway). Sponson more 40mm/1.1" off of the forward deckhouse as you have done. Fit a single whaleboat forward of the aft mast.

The cut-down tripod aft will need some triangular cross-bracing (since it's no longer a triangle!), and I'm not sure if you have enough volume there for the director you've fitted. Colo would know.

There is no way you will get any turreted 5"/38 on the Pensacola hull. It was usual for the USN to remove one catapult, and one crane, leaving the other catapult and crane.

Aircraft were considered a massive fire hazard by then, especially amidship.

...that's probably why I said pedestal mounts, not turrets...

All I did was remove one catapult, update the aft tripod, update the plane and remove the torpedoes and the torpedo director thing.
