I read about the Typhon Warship Challenge and decided I can play a little for now... but I'm not going to post it in the challenge, since I doesn't feel it is unique enough. But I can post what I have done at least.

Heuhen, that might work if your steam plant was on another ship.

I gave it a fast stretch:

- I'm going to move the bridge superstructure more aft, so the fordeck will be a little longer.

The man-pointed BPDMS illuminator would not be safe with SPG-59 operating. In any case, BPDMS was so wildly limited I have no idea why it would be shipped. Mk 42 might have been more effective.

Well, Heuhen, Somehow your ship has the size of the SCB 227 projected Typhon DLGN (Which had the 3400 element radar, 1 60 missile Mk 10 GMLS, a single 5in/38 gun and 2 Mk 13 launchers) and fit 2 Mk 10 GMLS, an heavy 5in gun and 2 heavy 57 mm guns and the big radar? Hell, with the fullness of the bow and the high block coefficient you require for this amount of stuff on board, I think you are going to end up with an top speed of just 25 knots or so, with a drop in speed of 5 to 10 knots when you turn on the SPG-59. Note that all this goes for the lowermost concept on this page, so the biggest of the bunch!

Note that the amount of weapons you put on board is about equal that of the Scheme 59 cruiser design http://shipbucket.com/drawings/2655/file here, which is about 16000 tons. That ship is conventionally powered and the SPG-59 grew quite a lot since that concept was designed. Nuclear power often makes ships grow a bit more too. In short, the weapons and radars you suggest are better suited to an nuclear platform of 25000 tons or more then the 10000 tons platform you have drawn here.

yeah, that era, radars from that era and nuclear powerplant aren't my thing. but at least I learn something, I hope!

Yeah, that's how we learn, by comparing to real ships ;) Keep progressing this, see what you can do to make it work, and I hope to see it in the challenge when it does haha

I restarted it!

is this big enough.....

I think I will call it a fleet/carrier escort cruiser

short list:

- twin submarine type reactor installation, a beam as each other (not the best solution, can move one more forward!) main purpose is power, secondary propulsion
- classic steam powerplant with boilers, main purpose is propulsion, secondary power
- forward, either a 155 mm triple main gun as a DP-gun, or a 138 mm twin DP-gun
- 4 twin 57 mm twin AA/DP gun.
- question: Sea-sparrow on hangar roof or a cheap "mistral"-"thing" launcher... I want more launcher, for some perverse reason!!!
- two type of guidance (3 if you include main guin guidance, 4 with radar)

wonder how strong this powerplant is...., hopefully she is capable of fleet/carrier speed!
