There are total of 23 oblast (provinces), 5 autonomous regions, 3 direct-controlled municipalities (Kharbin, Vladivostok and Dalny).

Far Eastern Republic's history goes back to Russian expansion into Far east during 16th and 17th century when settlements around the fertile Amur basin begun to increase in population. Those settlements soon emerged as self-aware political power inside the Russian Empire and finally declared independence during the Pugachev-rebellion 1772. Far Eastern Empire was officially proclaimed in 1775. The new empire continued to expand into the sparsely populated areas around Chinese empire and by the late 19th century controlled wast areas of land with ever increasing population base due immigration from Russia and other parts of Europe. Following the rapid expansion, tension grew with China and another uprising Asian power Japan. These rivalries culminated in the Far Eastern - Japanese war in 1904-1905. After the losing the war against Japan, Far Eastern Empire begun to run into dept when trying to rebuild and compete Japan in military and influence over China and Korea. This drove the empire into economical turmoil which eventually exploded into socialistic revolution in 1920. Imperial regime fell and new Far Eastern Republic was formed. Tension with Japan remained and started escalating in the 30's when Japanese successfully reinstalled Chinese emperor Puyi as puppet ruler in China in 1937. During the Second world war, Japanese with their Chinese allies attacked Far Eastern Republic. After 4 years of war, Far Eastern Republic alongside with other allied countries emerged victorious. During the Cold War, Far Eastern Republic effectively controlled new socialist Asian puppet states in China and Japan and supported revolutionary movements across Asia and other parts of the world. Relations between the another socialist power Soviet Union begun to deteriorate in the late 50's ad eventually led split between the two powers.

Far Eastern Republic is one of the sole remaining socialist states. Its one-party unitary rule which has been denounced and criticized for human rights abuses, suppression of religious and ethnic minorities, censorship and mass surveillance, and cracking down on protests such as in 1989 by political dissidents and human rights groups.

After introducing economical reforms and adaption what the Far Eastern Communist Party calls as "market socialism" in late 70's, Far Eastern Republic has been one of the fastest growing economies with annual growth rates consistently above 6 percent. Since 2010, Far Eastern Republic has been the world's second-largest economy by nominal GDP, and since 2014, the largest economy in the world by purchasing power parity. Far Eastern Republic is one of the 5 permanent members in the UN security council and is recognized nuclear power. Its army is considered to be second largest in the world with the largest standing armies and second largest defense budget after USA.
